About Energy Psychology & EFT

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Energy Psychology?

Energy Psychology is a mind-body approach that helps release stress, shift negative thought patterns and process difficult emotions. It combines principles from psychology and physical techniques to help rewire the brain’s response to stress and upsetting emotions.

By addressing the root causes of emotional distress, it allows for lasting change rather than just temporary relief.

EFT (Tapping) is one of the main Energy Psychology techniques.

What is Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) Tapping?

EFT, or Tapping, is a simple and powerful technique that helps reduce stress, anxiety, and emotional blocks. It is also one of the main Energy Psychology techniques.

It involves tapping on specific points of the body while focusing on an issue, which helps calm the nervous system and change how the brain processes emotions. Many people who have tried other therapies without success have found relief with EFT.

It’s used for everything from everyday stress to deep-rooted trauma, making it a flexible and effective tool for emotional well-being.

How does EFT work?

EFT Tapping helps calm the body’s stress response by combining focused attention on an issue with gentle tapping on specific points of the body. These points are linked to the nervous system, and tapping on them sends a signal to the brain to relax. This helps reduce emotional intensity, shift negative thought patterns, and significantly improves how you respond to stress.

EFT can help release even well-engrained emotional triggers, making it easier to feel calmer, more at peace whatever the weather and less affected by past experiences.

What does the research say about EFT?

Dr. Peta Stapleton, a clinical and health psychologist, is a leading researcher in the field of EFT. Her groundbreaking studies have provided substantial evidence supporting EFT’s effectiveness. Her research on food cravings in overweight adults demonstrated significant reductions in cravings and associated behaviors after EFT interventions.

Notably, Dr. Stapleton’s research has also explored the physiological impacts of EFT. In a study published in the Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, she found that EFT Tapping significantly lowered cortisol levels—by as much as 41%—compared to traditional talk therapy or resting. Elevated cortisol, known as the “stress hormone,” is associated with increased stress and anxiety; thus, its reduction through EFT offers a tangible mechanism by which Tapping alleviates these conditions.

Additionally, a systematic review and meta-analysis have found EFT to be an evidence-based practice for anxiety, depression, phobias and PTSD, according to the standards of the American Psychological Association’s Division 12 Task Force on Empirically Validated Treatments.

Furthermore, EFT has been associated with improvements in self-esteem and self-worth. By addressing and resolving underlying emotional issues, individuals often experience enhanced self-perception and confidence.

That’s what I can help you with.

What issues can EFT address?

EFT Tapping has been shown to be effective for a wide range of issues, including:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Depression
  • Phobias
  • Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
  • Chronic pain
  • Weight management and food cravings
  • Insomnia
  • Emotional trauma

Research has demonstrated EFT’s efficacy in these areas, making it a versatile tool for emotional and physical well-being.

EFT also rewires the brain to overcome limiting beliefs, like “I’m not good enough” and replaces them with more positive beliefs like “I’m a good person“.

What can I expect during my EFT sessions?

You can expect me to treat you with kindness, compassion and patience.

In our sessions, I will help you to clarify the specific issues you’d like to work on. I will guide you through the tapping process, focusing on the tapping points while we explore your thoughts and feelings about the issue. You’ll also learn how to use EFT on your own when you need it.

Is EFT safe?

EFT Tapping is a safe, non-invasive technique with no known adverse side effects. It can be used alongside traditional medical or psychological treatments and is suitable for individuals of all ages. However, it is essential to work with a qualified practitioner, especially when addressing deep-seated traumas or complex psychological issues.

How can I learn EFT?

I’m an experienced EFT trainer and have taught hundreds of people around the world. I’m currently offering EFT Level 1 & 2 training programmes. Visit my training page or get in touch through the contact form to find out more.

What are your credentials and experience as an EFT practitioner?

My journey with EFT began in 2003, during a difficult period in my life with very deep depression. A single session with Paul Lynch profoundly changed my outlook, inspiring me to train as an Advanced Practitioner and then as a Master Trainer of Trainers with the EFT Centre in London.

Since then, I’ve helped people throughout the world to overcome emotional and psychological difficulties using EFT Tapping.

In 2009, after two decades in the corporate world implementing IT solutions around the world, I took a leap of faith to follow my passion for helping others to live fuller lives. Blending EFT with modalities like Matrix Reimprinting, Neurolinguistic Programming (NLP), Hypnosis, and The Sedona Method, I use these techniques to help my clients to break free from self-doubt, anxiety and trauma.

My approach is intuitive yet practical and combines deep listening, compassionate guidance, with evidence-based techniques to create lasting change.

Having lived and worked in England, Scotland, Europe, Africa, Australia, the Middle East, and the USA, I appreciate people’s diversity. I’m also an experienced speaker, facilitator, and trainer, dedicated to empowering others to take the reigns of their emotional and mental well-being.

I remain committed to my own growth, continuously learning and refining my skills. I still turn to Tapping and my peers when the shit hits the fan. I believe that healing starts from within, and with the right tools and support, transformation is possible for anyone.
