Let’s talk about something I see so many people struggling with — confidence, or more like it, the lack of confidence.
Not the kind you try to fake before a big meeting.
Not the kind you have to hype yourself into right before you speak.
Definitely not the kind that collapses the moment someone criticises you.
I’m talking about inner confidence.
The kind that lives deep in your body, that is quiet, grounded and real, and that lets you show up as yourself without the performance, the panic or the pretense.
Why Confidence Sometimes Feels Hard
If confidence feels hard for you, you’re not alone and you’re not broken.
What most people don’t realize is that confidence isn’t a mindset problem: it’s a safety issue.
You can tell yourself, “Just be confident!” a thousand times, but if your nervous system is saying, “This isn’t safe, I might get rejected or hurt or ostracized” – guess who’s going to win?
Somewhere along the way you might have learned that being visible, speaking up or standing out comes with consequences:
- Judgement
- Rejection
- Embarrassment
- Failure
Then your body — doing its brilliant job of protecting you — said,
“Let’s not do that again.”
So now, even when you want to show up with confidence, you might:
- Freeze up or go blank
- Overthink every word
- Play small or stay silent
- Avoid the very things you care about
This isn’t weakness. It’s biology.
How To Actually Build Inner Confidence
Confidence isn’t something you force or fake your way into.
It’s something you feel when your body senses safety.
That’s why one of the most effective ways I know to build real, lasting confidence is through EFT Tapping.
